The puck drops today for Jim Dowd’s 16th annual Shoot For The Stars Foundation All-Star Hockey Game.
The annual clash between the best Shore Conference ice hockey players will take place at 5 p.m. at the Red Bank Armory.
The former NHL star’s game will support the Food Bank Of Monmouth & Ocean Counties for the third consecutive summer. The NHL veteran of 17 years, and 1995 Stanley Cup champion with the New Jersey Devils, has developed an affinity for the Neptune operation.
“We spend a lot of time weighing our options and sifting through a lot of different potential partners,” Dowd said last summer. “We raise a lot of funds with this game and want to make sure we get it right. We want to do the most good for the most people.
“Working with The Food Bank again was a no-brainer. My wife and I took the tour for the first time last year and it’s amazing how many people need food in our community. The monetary donations, the food donations, it doesn’t leave this area.”
With the Monmouth All-Stars skating to an 8-5 victory last summer, the northern county improved its all time series record to 10-5 over the Ocean All-Stars.
