Johnson City knocks off Chenango Valley in hockey

Johnson City was still running on adrenaline from their Sunday triumph against Binghamton and defeated Chenango Valley, 3-2, on Friday in a Broome County High School Hockey Association tournament quarterfinal at Broome Community College.

Johnson City advances to today’s semifinal against Chenango Forks at 7 p.m. at BCC. The winner of that game plays Vestal at 5 p.m. on Sunday in the championship game at BCC.

Randy Bushnell scored the Wildcats’ first two goals, and Nate Walker added the winner in the third.

Michael Ferranti and Matt Benko scored for Chenango Valley.

Jared Levine made 38 saves for Johnson City and Dan English stopped 27 shots for CV.

Boys diving

Binghamton’s Deyon Godbay compiled 472.30 points to win the Section 4 diving title on Friday at Waverly High school.

Maine-Endwell’s Bryan LaSarso placed second and Brandon Griffin of Vestal was third.

The Section 4 swimming meet is today ay Owego. Class A begins at 9 a.m., Class C starts at 1 p.m. and Class B concludes the day at 5 p.m.
