This season: 1-2

Players to watch: 5-foot-10 junior point guard Zack Panebianco (all-state last season) and 6-foot-5 senior forward Quinn Lee.

Notable: Jamestown head coach Ben Drake is married to former Elmira Southside girls basketball standout Karen Burge. … Jamestown has won three Section 6 titles in the last four years, including a berth in the 2011 state final, and won the Palmer tournament in 2005.

Glasgow

Location: Glasgow, Del.

Last season: 12-8, won Middletown (Del.) Holiday Tournament

This season: 0-4

Players to watch: 6-1 senior point guard Kyle Coleman, 6-2 senior forward Ebon Flagg, 5-10 senior guard Dorian Thompson.

Bishop Kearney

Location: Rochester area

Last season: 15-8, won New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class AA title

This season: 2-2

Players to watch: 6-foot-4 sophomore guard Quinton Rose, 6-5 senior forward JoJo Gause, 6-5 senior guard/forward Stanley Foster, 6-5 junior guard/forward Branden Kellam.

Notable: Thomas Bryant, a 6-10 junior forward who ranks among the nation’s top juniors, transferred to Huntington Prep after helping Kearney to the state title. Also on last season’s team were Chinonso Obokoh, who is redshirting this season at Syrause, and Antwoine Anderson, now at Fordham.

Don Bosco Prep

Location: Ramsey, N.J.

Last season: 16-11

This season: 2-0

Players to watch: 6-4 senior point guard Paul Jorgenson (committed to George Washington University), 6-4 senior guard/forward Jack Ely (all-league), 6-6 senior forward Tom Sweeney (committed to Boston College to play football as a tight end) and 6-5 junior forward Lonnie River.

Notable: Past players of note include former University of Pittsburgh’s Tyrell Biggs (now in NBA D-League), Boston College senior forward John Oates and Ryan Grant, who played running back in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers.

South Shore

Location: Brooklyn

Last season: 22-7

This season: 7-3

Players to watch: 6-2 senior guard Doudmy St. Hilaire, 6-4 senior guard Devyn Wilson, 6-2 junior guard Shakur Spencer.

Notable: Terrence Samuel, one of the team’s top players last season, is now at the University of Connecticut.

St. Mary’s

Location: Manhasset, Long Island

Last season: 16-7

This season: 3-1

Players to watch: 6-5 senior forward Stephen Milhaven, 6-1 junior guard Patrick Jackson, 6-6 freshman forward Christopher Coalman, 6-11 freshman forward/center Nicholas Richards, 5-9 sophomore guard Damani Myers.

Notable: St. Mary’s won the Palmer tournament in 2010, when it was played at Horseheads Middle School. Chevaughn Lewis, now at Marist, was tournament MVP.

Elmira

Last season: 7-11, won Southern Tier Athletic Conference West Division

This season: 4-0

Players to watch: 6-0 junior guard Tyler Moffe, 6-1 senior forward Eli Thomas, 6-4 senior guard/forward Alex Bellardini, 6-2 senior guard Tyler Lynch, 6-2 senior forward Trevon Hamilton.

Notable: This is the third season as a combined program for Elmira and the first season as head coach for Ryan Johnson.

Horseheads

Last season: 3-14

This season: 3-1

Players to watch: 5-10 senior guard Jake Stermer, 6-0 senior guard Chris Corcoran, 6-4 junior forward Foster Clark, 6-0 sophomore guard Ben Clark, 6-2 junior forward Devonte Gaskins.

Notable: Horseheads first-year head coach Jeff Limoncelli has coached the school to a state title in baseball.

Jack Terwilliger Boys Regional Division 1

Mansfield

Last season: 13-9

This season: 6-2

Players to watch: 6-2 junior Bo Burleigh, 5-7 senior Brady Andrews, 6-0 junior Jarrod Burd, 6-0 junior Bryce Zaparzynski, 6-2 junior Chandler Correll.

Notable: Mansfield has won two District 4 titles and been to the Pennsylvania Class A Sweet 16 four times in the last seven seasons. Former University of Maryland star, NBA player and U.S. Congressman Tom McMillen led the Tigers to a state title in 1969.

Susquehanna Valley

Last season: 13-3

This season: 3-1

Players to watch: 5-9 senior guard Jason Fiorentino, 5-10 sophomore guard David Matthews, 6-2 senior forward Shaynne Rodriguez.

Notable: The Sabers finished third in the small-school division at the 2010 Josh Palmer tournament.

Troy (Pa.)

Last season: 7-13

This season: 1-3

Players to watch: Seniors Evan Polly, Jed Wright and Ryan Reeves; junior Brandon Mattocks.

Notable: This is Troy’s fifth consecutive appearance in the tournament.

Corning

Last season: 5-11

This season: 0-4

Players to watch: 5-9 senior guard Anthony Corby, 5-11 senior guard Chris McKibben, 6-6 senior forward Spencer Passmore, 6-4 senior forward Kieran Sariego.

Notable: Rick Gallant is in his first season as head coach of the Hawks.

Joel Stephens Boys Regional Division 2

Athens

Last season: 17-7

This season: 4-1

Players to watch: 6-2 senior forward Fred Horn, 6-7 senior center Dan Moyer, 6-0 junior guard Brandon Fauver, 6-0 junior guard/forward Jarrett Preister.

Notable: Cody White is in his first season as varsity coach after coaching the Athens JV team the previous two seasons.

Newark

Location: Rochester area

Last season: 14-7, lost in Section 5 Class B finals

This season: 4-2

Players to watch: 6-2 senior forward Micah Wright (first-team all-league last season), 6-1 senior forward Jaymee Rosser (second-team all-league), 5-10 junior guard Tyler Collins, 6-1 senior forward Phil Tack.

Notable: Newark has advanced to Glens Falls five times for the state tournament and finished second in Class B in 2010 behind the play of current University at Buffalo standout Javon McCrea.

Elmira Notre Dame

Last season: 16-4

This season: 5-0

Players to watch: 6-2 junior guard Darius Garvin (third-team Class C all-state last season), 6-5 senior guard Tom Agan, 6-1 senior guard Derek Marshall, 6-1 senior guard Jonas McCaig, 5-10 senior guard Hunter Thomas, 6-4 senior center Nate Niles, 6-6 senior center Eric Brennan.

Notable: The Crusaders won the small-school division at the previous three Josh Palmer Tournaments. … Notre Dame won a state title in 1978.

Thomas A. Edison

Last season: 4-13

This season: 0-5

Players to watch: 6-3 senior forward Adam Shumaker, 6-1 senior guard/forward Terrance Kunkle, 6-1 senior guard/forward Brandon Michaud, 6-1 senior guard/forward Joe Ducot, 6-3 senior forward Jake Bahantka.

Notable: The Spartans have won two division titles in the past five seasons.

Eileen Morissey Girls Division

Horseheads

Last season: 17-4, won STAC West and Section 4 Class AA titles

Players to watch: 6-1 junior forward Amanda Schiefen (eighth-team Class AA all-state last season), 5-9 senior guard Ellie Lezsyk (signed to play at Le Moyne), 5-5 senior guard Jen LaViola, 5-5 senior guard Abbey Benesh, 5-7 senior forward Erin Strollo.

Notable: Horseheads has won the past five girls titles at the Palmer Tournament.

Elmira

Last season: 0-15

This season: 0-5

Players to watch: 5-10 junior forward Abbie Topping, 5-7 senior guard Kaitlyn Weaver, 5-5 senior guard McKenna Backer, 5-5 senior guard Melissa Erway.

Elmira Notre Dame

Last season: 15-4

This season: 4-1

Players to watch: 5-10 senior guard/forward Sheridan Heine (signed to play at Division I Manhattan College), 5-10 senior forward/center Emily Carson, 6-0 junior forward/center Megan O’Dell, 5-9 sophomore guard/forward Mia Herlan, 5-8 freshman guard Ariana Bulkley, 6-2 eighth-grade forward/center Mary Foster, 5-6 freshman guard Mackenzie Maloney.

Notable: Notre Dame won back-to-back state championships in 2006 and 2007.

Penfield

Location: Rochester area

Last season: 17-4, lost in Section 5 Class AA finals

This season: 4-1

Players to watch: 5-11 senior forward Margot Hetzke (school’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder, signed to play at Division I Siena), 5-10 senior guard Lucy Covley, 5-7 senior guard Shannon Nesselbush, 6-2 sophomore forward Emma Guy, 5-11 senior forward Alexa Bartosiewicz, 6-0 junior forward Leach Crockett.

Notable: Penfield was 63-6 over the previous three seasons, including a loss to Cicero-North Syracuse in the Class AA state final in 2012.
