Athletic achievement: He led the Vikings (20-2) to a berth in the Class 5A state tournament, scheduled to begin May 25. At the time of his selection, Colombo owned a 4-1 record, a 1.01 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 34.2 innings. The 2012 Class 5A Pitcher of the Year, he also batted .426 with 29 RBI, 20 runs and a .588 slugging percentage.

Academic excellence: Colombo has maintained a 3.93 GPA.

Exemplary character: A member of his school’s Spanish Club, Spirit Club and Sportsmanship Council, he has volunteered locally shoveling snow for elderly residents and as a youth baseball coach.


“Ryan Colombo has had a great career playing for one of the best baseball programs in the state,” said Jay Mastin, head coach at Topeka (Kan.). “He is a leader on Seaman’s team and his numbers are at or near the top of the very best of anyone in the state.”

THE FUTURE: Colombo has signed with Drury.
