Put the spotlight on Montverde Academy (Fla.) guard Kasey Hill, and he’s bound to embrace the attention by showing off his explosive quickness.
Just watch Hill’s seamless slam dunk last December, when he helped lead the Eagles to the City of Palms Classic championship. The five-star rated and No. 9 ranked recruit for the Class of 2013 (according to Rivals.com) has also been integral to Montverde’s rise to No. 2 in the USA TODAY Super 25.
Hill, who was named to the 2013 USA Basketball Junior National Select Team, will face off against the nation's elite ballers next week in Chicago at the 36th McDonald’s All American Boys Game.
Whether or not Hill’s East Team will walk away with the title is uncertain, but there’s no denying the talent behind the focus of this week’s American Family Insurance ALL-USA Watch.
This week’s player: Kasey Hill, Montverde Academy (Fla.) guard
2012-13 stats: 12.9 points, 5.5 assists, 3 rebounds per game.
Best games: Hill led Montverde to the City of Palms Classic title against Lone Peak (Utah) on Dec. 22. He had 13 points and five assists in Montverde's 82-53 win over Simeon at the Cancer Research Classic.
Others’ Take: “He is athletic and has a solid skill set, but what sets him apart is his competitive spirit.” — Lone Peak (Utah) coach Quincy Lewis
Watch Out For: Salesian (Calif.) shooting guard Jabari Bird. The Cal commit is ranked No. 23 nationally for the class of 2013, according to Rivals.com. Bird’s not one to shy away from a dunk…or four, as he did during the Pride’s 69-60 win against Sheldon (Calif.) on Feb. 4. And despite having to leave the game for a spell due to a cut under his left eye, Bird still managed 22 points and nine rebounds.
