School: Marion County (Lebanon, Ky.)
Grade: Senior
Position: Point guard
Height: 5-foot-10

Athletic achievement: She has led the Rebels to a 35-0 record entering the Sweet Sixteen State Tournament round of the postseason against Bowling Green (Ky.), scheduled for March 13. At the time of her selection, Epps was averaging 22.8 points, 4.8 assists, 4.3 steals and 4.2 rebounds per game. A McDonald’s All-American Game selection and a three-time All-State honoree, she has scored 3,256 points in her prep basketball career, placing her eighth on Kentucky’s career list.

Academic excellence: Epps has maintained a B average.

Exemplary character: She has volunteered locally with American Red Cross blood-donation drives, a literacy-outreach program and as a peer tutor.


“Makayla’s basketball IQ is as good as anyone that I have ever been around in the game of basketball,” said Trent Milby, head coach of Marion County (Lebanon, Ky.). “Her ability to score as well as control a game from the point guard position all by herself is remarkable.”

THE FUTURE: Epps will attend Kentucky.
