The Shore Conference Class A North girls soccer division had 14 ties among the seven schools last year.

In the first game between Colts Neck and Howell, the schools nearly played to a double overtime tie to start off the 2013 season.

However, Colts Neck junior Erika Keselman recorded the only goal of the game with her game-winning tally in double overtime for a 1-0 win over Howell.

Keselman rose up in the box and headed a corner kick from sophomore Bridgette King into the upper left region of the net for the golden goal at 94:47 in double overtime.

Senior goalie Lauren Zborovancik preserved the shutout with six saves. Howell’s Sarah Borrelli stopped 10 saves.

RB CATHOLIC 6, RED BANK 2: Though Red Bank’s Jazz Van Loon opened the scoring at 4:00 with the first of her two goals, that was all the offense the Bucs (1-1) would receive in this nondivisional loss to the rival Caseys (1-0).

Elizabeth Thoresen led the way for Red Bank Catholic with two goals of her own, while Grace Correll recorded a goal and two assists, and Jenna Mucardo contributed a goal and an assist to the Caseys’ cause.

RUMSON-FH 4, MARLBORO 1: Rumson-Fair Haven senior midfielder Schuyler Debree recorded a hat trick with three consecutive goals at 37:05, 42:56, and 72:45 as the Bulldogs (1-0) upended the Mustangs (0-1) in this nondivisional season opener.

Rumson’s Meghan McGurl assisted on two of Debree’s three goals, while Alex Donato scored the lone Marlboro marker.

FREEHOLD 1, FREEHOLD TWP. 0: Freehold sophomore Ashley Latona received a pass from teammate Meghan Holtz and the found the back of the net at 49:56, providing the only goal of the game at 49:56, making a winner out of the Colonials (1-0) in this season-opening, nondivisional match with the Patriots (0-1).

SHORE 3, MONROE 2: Samantha McDonough had one goal and two assists and Julia Luebs and Katie Stevens each added a goal as the Blue Devils (1-0) defeated the Falcons (0-1) in a nonconference game. Shore used goalies Katie Colaguori (three saves) and Kylie Foggia (two saves).

BOYS SOCCER

FREEHOLD TWP. 6, FREEHOLD 0: Brian Dziobak netted a pair of goals, the first of which came on a penalty kick opening the scoring at 16:00 while the second came at the 56:00 mark, as the Patriots (1-0) opened the 2013 season with a nondivisional shutout victory over the crosstown rival Colonials (0-1).

RUMSON-FH 3, MARLBORO 1: Rumson’s Harry Gassert delivered the opening blow at 16:00 while teammate Ryan Strang dealt out a pair of assists as the Bulldogs (1-0) earned the nondivisional win over the Mustangs (0-1).

IN FIELD HOCKEY

SHORE 4, EAST BRUNSWICK 1: Carol Middough scored four goals and Katie Mannino, Jess Welch, Grace Santi and Julianne Hurley each had one assist as the Blue Devils (1-0-1) defeated the Bears (1-1) in a nonconference game.

HOLMDEL 2, RARITAN 1: Keira Yonclas, a sophomore forward, scored a goal in each half as the Hornets (1-0, 1-0) defeated the Rockets (0-1, 0-1) in a Class A Central game. Sydney Coffaro assisted on Yonclas’ goal at 18:28 and the next goal at 31:58 was unassisted. Raritan junior forward Sam Coppola scored at 55:57.

GIRLS TENNIS

TR SOUTH 3, MON. DONOVAN 2: All three singles matches in this nondivisonal showdown went to a match point, as the Indians’ (2-0) Linsey Parks and Caitlin Adams earned individual victories alongside Griffins (0-1) freshman Gianna Marano’s third singles win.

However, of the three individual efforts, it was Adams’ 6-7 (7-4), 7-6 (8-6), 7-5 victory over Giana D’Agastaro that clinched the win for Toms River South.

Tara Schaff and Taylor Leuzk took the first doubles match in favro of the Indians while Monsignor Donovan’s Danielle Christen and Angelica Merone won the second singles bout.

RB CATHOLIC 5, MIDD. SOUTH 0: Jenna Giordano and Rebecca Bauer, Red Bank Catholic’s first team All Shore doubles tandem in 2012, were split up and slotted in the top two singles slots to start this 2013 campaign and helped lead Caseys’ (1-0) to a nondivisional victory over the Eagles (0-1) in the season opener.

Giordano played to a hard-fought 6-3, 6-4 win over Nicole Rivera, while Bauer recorded a convincing 6-3, 6-0 victory sophomore Ciara Sullivan.

IN GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

BRICK MEMORIAL 2, LAKEWOOD 0: Danielle Oakley’s four aces and four kills propelled the visiting Mustangs (1-0) past the Piners (0-1) in nondivisional play.

Alyssa Roselli added seven assists. Alahana Reeves contributed three aces. Lakewood’s Monica Tablas led the Piners with two blocks and two digs. Irene Tablas added two aces.

WALL 2, RUMSON FH 0: Veronica Portelli and Taylor Mitchell led the host Crimson Knights (1-0) past the Bulldogs (0-1) in nondivisional action.

Portelli finished with four kills, three digs and two aces. Mitchell added nine assists and four aces. Rumson’s Kate Edwards notched four kills, three blocks and three digs. Nora Ryan added four kills, three blocks and five digs.

RED BANK CATHOLIC 2, RED BANK 0: Led by Mary Yachnik’s three kills and nine assists, the visiting Caseys (1-0) blanked the Bucs (0-1).

Kathleen Davin added five digs and five aces. Isabell Linde contributed three kills and three aces. Red Bank’s Whitney Dee put up seven assists and two digs. Abby Curtis added three kills and five digs. Erin Sacharanski added eight assists.
