The Kimberly girls’ soccer team fell short of a trip to the state tournament on Saturday, losing to De Pere in a shootout in a WIAA Division 1 sectional final game.

The game was tied 0-0 after two overtime periods, then went to the best-of-five shootout, which the Redbirds won 4-3.

De Pere and Kimberly both connected on their first two shootout kicks. De Pere’s third attempt failed, but Kimberly’s third attempt also failed.

Both teams converted on their fourth attempts to make it 3-3.

De Pere’s Abby Savolt made De Pere’s fifth attempt, then De Pere goalie Megan Lindstrom stopped Kimberly’s final attempt with a lunging save to her right, sending De Pere to the state tournament and ending Kimberly’s season.

Sydnee Buss, Kirsten White and Steph Hetto were successful in their shootout kicks for the Papermakers.
