The Kings had a successful debut on their new home field with the preseason victory over the visiting Keswick Crusaders from St. Pete.
The Kings opened the scoring on their second possession when junior quarterback Terrance DeAvila capped a six-play, 59-yard drive with a 7- yard run. The drive was kept alive when sophomore Garrett Pynckel took a counter on a fake punt 28 yards to the Crusaders’ 11-yard line.
After a score by Keswick to get to within a point, SFCA answered when DeAvila found sophomore receiver Tristian Upton on a 20 scoring strike to take a 16-7 lead into the half.
DeAvila finished the game 9-of-17 passing for 122 yards and 77 yards rushing.
“We have 13 or 14 seniors who were in eighth grade when this program started and they were super-pumped to be able to get to play on their own field,” SFCA coach Mark Ackerman said.
