The Laconia boys’ basketball team opened up its season with a dominating 69-20 win over Berlin in a non-conference game played in Rosendale.

Brett Wittchow led the way for the Spartans (1-0) with 20 points (9-of-11 shooting) and five assists as they jumped out to a 18-2 first quarter lead. Nick Vollmer added 14 points, Jack Bartz had 11 and Noah Greve added nine.

“We came out with fire tonight, we got a lot of guys back from last year and we had a nice uptempo first half,” Spartans head coach Tom King said. “We applied good pressure and it was everything I’d hope it was in our first game.”

Laconia shot 69 percent in the game (29-42) and recorded 18 total steals compared to only six turnovers.
