Siegel High returned to the TSSAA Class AAA state volleyball tournament in 2013 after a year off.
The Lady Stars, who were one of two Rutherford County teams that reached the state tournament, finished third for the second time in school history.
Today, the Lady Stars headline The Daily News Journal’s 2013 All-Area Volleyball Team.
Four players — setter Jill Morgan, libero Hannah Poarch, outside hitter Tori Simmons and middle hitter Amanda Worrell — were named to the eight-player first team. And second-year coach Laura Pierce is The DNJ’s 2013 Volleyball Coach of the Year.
Morgan, a junior, ran the Siegel attack. She dished out 1,362 assists and had 102 service aces.
Poarch, who missed a portion of the year due to injury, recovered by the postseason and returned to the back row. The junior had 188 digs for the season.
Simmons, an MTSU commitment, had 514 kills, 532 digs and 103 service aces. Simmons, a junior, also was the District 7-AAA MVP. Worrell, a senior, had 211 kills and 56 blocks.
