Defending state champion Lansing is the No. 2 seed for the Section 4 Class C baseball tournament, which will begin Tuesday with five first-round matchups. The pairings for the tournament were released Thursday.
The Bobcats (17-1), who won the Interscholastic Athletic Conference Large School title on Wednesday with a 5-2 victory over Waverly, earned a first-round bye and will meet the winner of seventh-seed Sidney (13-5) vs. No. 10 Greene (10-8). Lansing defeated Sidney, 11-2, in last year’s sectional quarterfinals.
Other first-round games slated for Tuesday include: No. 9 Spencer-Van Etten at No. 8 Bainbridge-Guilford; No. 12 Unadilla Valley at No. 5 Trumansburg; No. 13 Oxford at No. 4 Edison; and No. 11 Harpursville at No. 6 Tioga.
Trumansburg (11-5) handed Lansing its first loss in nearly two years last Friday, 1-0 in eight innings. The Bobcats had won 42 in a row, their last loss coming in the first round of the 2011 Section 4 tournament.
Seton Catholic Central (13-3) is the top seed in Class C, and will play the S-VE vs. B-G winner in the quarterfinals.
In Class B, Dryden is the sixth seed in the seven-team bracket and will play third-seed Oneonta on Thursday in the quarterfinals. The winner will get either second seed Chenango Forks or No. 7 Newark Valley.
Marathon, which played Thursday evening for the IAC Small School championship, is the fifth seed in Class D and will meet 12th-seeded Richfield Springs on Tuesday in the first round.
