Evan Pietronico’s two-run, opposite field double off the left center field fence in the bottom of the seventh inning capped a rally that began with two out and nobody on and gave host St. John Vianney a dramatic 9-8 win over Manasquan on Tuesday in a Shore Conference Class A Central game.

Sophomore catcher Anthony Santoro began the rally with a double.

Junior first baseman Joe Rotelli then walked before Pietronico, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, scored Santoro and pinch-runner Vinnie Durso with the tying and winning runs respectively.

Manasquan (0-3, 0-3) had taken the lead in the top of the seventh when Jimmy Walsh scored on a wild pitch.

CBA 5, FREEHOLD TWP 3: Joe Dudek led off the top of the sixth with a homer to left center to tie the game and Pete Papcun broke the tie with a two-out solo homer to left in the eighth as the Colts (3-1, 3-1), ranked No. 1 in the Asbury Park Press Top 10, defeated the Patriots (2-3, 1-3) in a Class A North game.

Will Morgan added an insurance run with an RBI single to center to score Anthony Critelli.

Matt Pidich pitched two scoreless innings of one-hit relief to pick up his first win of the season.

Rob Roth’s RBI triple highlighted a three-run fifth inning that gave Freehold Township a 3-2 lead.

COLTS NECK 6, MIDD. SOUTH 3: Casey Wall pitched out of a base-loaded, nobody-out jam in the top of the seventh by striking out the side to preserve the No. 7 Cougars’ win over the No. 9 Eagles (2-2, 2-2) in a Class A North game.

Colts Neck (2-2, 2-2) broke a 3-3 tie by scoring three runs in the in the bottom of the sixth.

Matt Kleinstein had three RBI for Colts Neck.

HOWELL 7, MANALAPAN 1: Ryan Wares continued his early-season surge by pitching a complete-game five-hitter and belting a solo homer in the fifth as the Rebels (3-1, 3-1) defeated the No. 5 Braves (1-3, 1-3) in a Class A North game.

Wares (2-0) struck out four and walked one.

Troy Miller had a two-run homer in the second, Rob Napolitano a solo homer in the fourth and Zach Loroesh a two-run double in the first for the Rebels, who have scored 33 runs in their last three games.

FREEHOLD 3, OCEAN 1: Senior left-hander Jake Yanez pitched a complete-game three-hitter and Nick Piscopo had a two-run single in the fifth inning as the No. 10 Colonials (3-2, 2-2) defeated the Spartans (2-2, 2-2) in a Class B North game.

Yanez (2-0) struck out six and walked six.

Dante Cuzzolino had an RBI single in the first for Freehold.

Ocean’s Kevin Buell struck out six, walked one and allowed five hits in six innings.

MATAWAN 6, NEPTUNE 5: Justin Harnett had a two-run single with two out in the bottom of the sixth to put the Huskies (3-1, 3-0) ahead for good and he pitched two innings of relief to improve to 3-0 as Matawan defeated the Scarlet Fliers (0-3, 0-3) in a Class B North game.

MARLBORO 3, MIDD. NORTH 0: Senior left-hander Adam Ashenfarb pitched a complete-game two-hitter to improve to 3-0 and Dustin Jensen had an RBI double in a two-run fourth as the Mustangs (4-1, 3-1) defeated the Lions (1-3, 1-3) in a Class A North game.

MONMOUTH 5, SHORE 1: Senior right-hander Tom Broyles struck out 10 and allowed just five hits over the first six innings to improve to 2-0 as the Falcons (4-1, 3-1) defeated the Blue Devils (1-3, 1-2) in a Class A Central game.
