The No. 5-seeded Manitowoc Lutheran softball team scored six runs in the first inning as Devon Liermann and MacKayla Menges each had two-run singles in an 11-6 WIAA Division 4 State Softball Tournament regional opening win over No. 4 Princeton-Green Lake on Thursday.
Liermann finished 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBI while Menges was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Also for Lutheran, Arianna Neumeyer was 4-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI, Kaitlin Radue was 3-for-4 with three runs and Hannah Yagodinski was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBI.
Jordan Menges earned the complete-game win as she allowed two earned runs on seven hits and one walk with six strikeouts. She also was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and an RBI.
Lutheran will next play at No. 1 Oakfield, the defending tournament champions, on Tuesday.
Division 3 Mishicot 11, Gibraltar-Washington Island 1 (5)
Kelly Wilfert was 3-for-4 with five RBI as No. 3-seeded Mishicot topped the visiting No. 6 seed.
Also for the Indians, Amber Pantzlaff and Lindsay Bries were each 2-for-3.
Bries started and earned the complete-game win, allowing five hits and one walk with one strikeout.
Mishicot will host No. 7 seed Kewaunee on Tuesday.
