LONG PRAIRIE – Foley hung on for a 2-1 win over Long Prairie in a Melrose Sub-District VI game Monday night thanks to a stellar performance from its starting pitcher.
Foley’s Hunter Hammers earned the win in six innings of work. He gave up an earned run on one hit and struck out five.
Cameron Yurek went 2-for-3 for Foley (3-0), Tyler Midas went 1-for-2 with a run-scoring sacrifice fly and Kyle Kipka went 1-for-3.
PAYNESVILLE 6, HOLDINGFORD 0
HOLDINGFORD – Josh Bungum went 3-for-4 with two doubles in Paynesville’s shutout win.
Matt Quade went 2-for-4 with two doubles for Paynesville (2-0). Jordan Roos threw six innings to get the win. He gave up two hits and struck out six.
SAUK CENTRE 6, ROYALTON 0
ROYALTON – Billy Moritz and Phil Moe combined to throw for a no-hitter in the season-opening win for Sauk Centre.
Josh Buschette had three hits with a double for Sauk Centre (1-0), Moritz had two hits with a double and Nick Adams had two hits, including a triple.
Matt Silbernick took the loss.
ST. JOSEPH 3, ST. AUGUSTA 1
ST. JOSEPH – R.J. Alpers scored twice and Caz Novak and Alex Kendall both had run-producing hits in the win for St. Joseph (1-0).
Noah Voigt scored the lone run for St. Augusta (0-1). Jake Stock earned the save in relief.
LITTLE FALLS 2, BIG LAKE 1
BIG LAKE – Matt Stumpf went 2-for-4 and drove in the winning run in the eighth inning to help Little Falls to the victory.
Kyle Boser drove in the other run for Little Falls (1-0). Michael Fregin earned the win and Collin Eckman picked up the save.
WAITE PARK 8, BECKER 5
BECKER – Waite Park scored five runs in the seventh inning after being down 4-3 to pull out the win.
Bryan Benson went 3-for-4 with four RBI for Waite Park (1-0), Dallas Haugen scored two runs and singled and Ethan Carlson went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
D.J. Smith earned the win in relief.
Matt Miller took the loss.
SARTELL 8, ST. CLOUD 76ERS 4
SARTELL – Grant Muckenthun threw a complete game to help Sartell to its season-opening victory.
Muckenthun gave up two earned runs and struck out six. Andrew Eisenreich took the loss.
Cody Partch and Blake Guggenberger both went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Sartell (1-0) and Dylan Hollenkamp went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI.
Chase Aleshire went 2-for-4 with a double for the 76ers (0-1) and Joe Setrum went 3-for-4 with a triple and a double.
