KIMBALL – Jordan Roos tossed a five-hit, complete-game shutout to help Paynesville beat Kimball 1-0 Monday night in a Melrose Sub-District American Legion baseball game.
Roos, a right-hander, struck out 11 and walked three for Paynesville (6-0).
Paynesville scored in the fourth. Josh Bungum led off with a single and stole second. He then scored on Austin Mackedanz’s RBI single to left. Bungum slid around a tag attempt by Kimball catcher Troy Filzen.
Mackedanz wound up 2-for-3 to lead Paynesville.
For Kimball (3-3), Tim Konz went 2-for-3 and Hunter Schreifels doubled and walked.
Joe Von Wahlde took the tough-luck loss. Von Wahlde struck out 10, walked four and allowed five hits in six innings.
Paynesville is host to Long Prairie at 6:30 tonight.
FOLEY 9, HOLDINGFORD 0
FOLEY – Tyler Midas went 3-for-3 with a walk and allowed one hit over six innings on the mound to lead Foley (8-1 Melrose Sub-District, 12-1 overall).
Midas struck out 10 and walked no one. Hunter Hammers got the save, allowing one hit and striking out three in one inning. Hammers also was 3-for-4.
Mitch Keeler and Cameron Jurek were each 2-for-3 for Foley, which won the Ely Tournament.
ALBANY 6, ROYALTON 0
ROYALTON – Dylan Panek and Carter Holthaus combined on a one-hitter to lead Albany (5-4 Melrose Sub-District, 8-7 overall).
Panek, a right-hander, struck out seven and allowed one hit over five innings. Holthaus struck out six and walked five in two innings. He also was 2-for-4 with a double.
Mitch Thelen was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Riley Voigt was 1-for-3 with a double and RBI and Dusty Gerads went 1-for-3 with a double and RBI.
Albany plays at 6:30 tonight at Upsala.
BROWERVILLE 3, MELROSE 2
MELROSE – Austin Duncan allowed two hits over five innings and Grant Heid pitched two hitless innnings for the save for Browerville (3-2).
LONG PRAIRIE 4, BBE 0
LONG PRAIRIE – Despite James Kueffler’s three hits, Long Prairie shut down Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa (3-4 Melrose Sub-District, 4-5 overall).
SAUK RAPIDS 11, ZIMMERMAN 1
ZIMMERMAN – Nate Freihammer improved to 3-0 on the season with five strong innings of work for Sauk Rapids in a six-inning game.
He gave up two hits and struck out eight. Tyler Bjork went 2-for-2 with two home runs and four RBI for Sauk Rapids (8-2), Tyler Long went 3-for-3 with a double and Clayton Douvier went 2-for-4.
Sauk Rapids is at Sartell on Monday.
LITTLE FALLS 13, ST. AUGUSTA 1
ST. AUGUSTA – Little Falls ran over St. Augusta in a St. Cloud Sub-District game.
Kyle Boser earned the win and Brandon Voigt took the loss.
Josh Wenzel and Brett Strack each had four hits for Little Falls (4-3). Sam Schoenberg had two hits for St. Augusta (1-5).
SARTELL 9-8, WAITE PARK 4-11
SARTELL – Senior left-hander Grant Mackenthun pitched Sartell to the game one 9-4 victory, striking out four, walking one and allowing one earned run and 10 hits.
Mickey Kutz went 2-for-3, Dylan Hollenkamp was 1-for-2 with two RBI, Blake Guggenberger was 2-for-4 with two RBI and Parker Hagen was 2-for-4 for Sartell.
For Waite Park, Ben Alvord went 3-for-4 and Dallas Haugen was 2-for-4.
In game 2, Waite Park scored seven runs in the seventh to rally from an 8-4 deficit to win 11-4. Haugen got the win in relief.
