Trailing Westfield (Martin, Tenn.) 10-7 with 2 minutes to play in Friday’s Class 3A quarterfinal playoff game, Lewis County (Hohenwald, Tenn.) needed a spark. The Panthers got a miracle.
Running back Lucas Graham, who gave the Panthers hope by returning a kickoff for a touchdown late in the third quarter, would give them the lead with an improbable touchdown pass that was reminiscent of Auburn’s stunning score against Georgia two weeks ago.
“I just lay on the ground and thought ‘Golly, thank the Lord,'” Graham, who returned a kickoff for a touchdown in the third quarter, told the Daily Herald.
“I’ve never been in a situation like that in 34 years,” Lewis County coach Bobby Sharp said.
