Trailing Westfield (Martin, Tenn.) 10-7 with 2 minutes to play in Friday’s Class 3A quarterfinal playoff game, Lewis County (Hohenwald, Tenn.) needed a spark. The Panthers got a miracle.

Running back Lucas Graham, who gave the Panthers hope by returning a kickoff for a touchdown late in the third quarter, would give them the lead with an improbable touchdown pass that was reminiscent of Auburn’s stunning score against Georgia two weeks ago.

Graham’s 47-yard heave bounced off two Westview defenders and into the arms of Nathan Dunn, who stretched across the goal line for the game-winning touchdown.

“I just lay on the ground and thought ‘Golly, thank the Lord,'” Graham, who returned a kickoff for a touchdown in the third quarter, told the Daily Herald.

“I’ve never been in a situation like that in 34 years,” Lewis County coach Bobby Sharp said.
