(WLTX) — After leading Lexington to its first state title since 1999, head coach Brian Hucks has been named the Coach of the Year for all classifications by the SC High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Lexington catcher Nick Ciuffo was named the AAAA State Player of the Year by the SCHBCA.

Hucks has a 14-year coaching career. His first 12 were at Brookland-Cayce where he led the Bearcats to state titles in 2000 and 2008.

Since coming to Lexington, he has a two-year record of 55-9. This past season, he surpassed the 300-win mark. His current coaching record stands at 313-114.

Ciuffo led Lexington in batting average (.468), home runs (5), RBI (33), walks (22), on base percentage (.562) and slugging percentage (.723).

With a 25-game hitting streak this spring, Ciuffo hit safely in 30 of 33 games and reached base in 32 of 33 overall.  He didn’t have a passed ball and committed just two errors in 240 chances.
