This year’s HTR Media All-Area Boys Swimmer of the Year, Manitowoc Lincoln’s Aaron Hochkammer, found ways to do the impossible.
“Aaron had a real good season,” said Lincoln coach Mike Zupek. “Dramatic improvements are really hard for an elite swimmer like him, but that’s exactly what he did.”
Hochkammer entered his senior season with the bar already set pretty high, but by the time he got out of the pool at the WIAA State Division 1 Boys Swimming and Diving Meet in Madison for the final time he capped his career with another new record.
Hochkammer previously broke the Fox River Classic Conference’s 100-meter backstroke mark with a record time of 54.97 at the conference meet and along with teammates Riley and Dylan Neuser and Kyle Heinzen broke the Ships’ 400 relay record at State.
Lincoln swam nearly six seconds faster than its sectional time and finished the event in 3:16.85 to shatter the old school record of 3:20:68 by almost four seconds.
The rest of the all-area team is made up of nine State qualifiers, including four sophomore teammates of Hochkammer in John Cress, Damian Klemish and the Neuser twins.
