Joanna Zalewski found herself in a familiar setting at Friday’s Union County Tournament finals, and her execution reflected that familiarity.
Zalewski, who won the 2011 UCT first singles title and reached the state final before sitting out last season, concluded a superb tournament run with a straight sets victory (6-1, 6-0) over Mimi MacCowatt of Kent Place at the Donald Van Blake Courts in Plainfield.
Linden snagged another individual title at second singles. Olivia Podsiebierski won 6-0, 6-0, in the flight’s final against Caroline King of Westfield.
Kent Place finished with 76 team points to hold off Westfield and Oak Knoll, which tied for second (68 points). Kent Place won its first UCT team title since 2004, snapping Westfield’s streak of eight consecutive crowns.
