The host St. John Vianney boys volleyball team, led by Chris Lionette and Justin Sandy, raised its record to 6-2 with a 2-1 win over Freehold in Shore Conference Class A North on Tuesday.
Lionette, whose team beat the Colonials 25-15 in the third game to win the match, finished with two kills, 22 assists and four digs for the Lancers, 3-1 in divisional play. Sandy added three aces, 10 kills and five digs. Robert Benson contributed three kills and three blocks. Andrew Zimms aided the win with six kills and seven digs.
Bryon Pfeffer paced the Colonials (3-6 1-4) with 11 kills, nine blocks and two assists. Trevor Mount added 25 assists and four digs. Pat Hannigan contributed five kills.
TR SOUTH 2, TR EAST 0: Brian Sutera’s six kills, two blocks and three aces and Joe Esposito’s 21 assists led the host Indians (7-1, 4-1) past the Raiders (1-5, 0-5) in Class A South.
Scott Stueber added seven kills and Alex Purpuro contributed three kills and two aces. For East, Jake Nicol put up three assists and four kills. Nat Amadeo added two blocks, three digs and two kills. Justin Nicol had three kills and Tyler Luszik handed out four assists.
MARLBORO 2, HOWELL 0: Brandon D’Lima’s seven kills and seven digs and Bobby Jastzeski’s seven kills paced the host Mustangs (4-3, 3-1) past the Rebels (2-5, 1-4) in Class A North.
Peter Wilson led the Rebels with six kills and four digs. Jacob Brown added six kills and two blocks.
CENTRAL 2, LACEY 0: Ambrose Powell’s 10 kills and four digs helped the host Golden Eagles (3-3, 3-3) past the Lions (1-7, 1-4) in Class A South.
Bryan Jones added 16 assists and three aces. Casey Raso contributed five digs and two kills.
For Lacey, Kevin Tonkovich put up 10 kills, three digs and three blocks. Trevor Matthews contributed 10 kills and two blocks. Matt McGovern added six kills, two digs and 10 blocks. D.J. Divencenzo added two digs and four blocks.
BARNEGAT 2, MANCHESTER 0: Bobby Erickson, Frank Buckley, Keith Lee and Will Leamon propelled the host Bengals (3-6, 3-2) past the Hawks (2-3, 2-2) in Class A Central.
Erickson notched 13 assists and two kills. Buckley put five kills and two digs into the book. Lee finished with two assists, four kills and six blocks. Leamon had five kills and two blocks.
For Manchester, Blake Borsetti had seven kills, five digs and four assists. Antoine Brown and Doug DeSimone notched four and seven kills, respectively. Josh Guzman added four kills and two blocks.
Ali Yildrim scrapped for 15 digs. Sean Rembach added nine assists. Nick Capasso contributed two digs and nine assists and Santos Natal had four kills.
SOUTHERN 2, TR NORTH 0: Brandon Lee’s four kills and seven aces and Adriel Dunwoody’s three kills and four blocks propelled the host Rams (11-, 5-0) past the Mariners (4-3, 3-2) in Class A South.
Luke King added 12 assists. Harrison Lewis contributed seven kills. For North, Billy Koch had five kills and two blocks.
CBA 2, COLTS NECK 0: Led by Brian Kelly’s five digs and three kills and Nick Osborne’s five kills and two blocks, the host Colts (6-1, 5-0) bested the Cougars (4-3, 1-4) in Class A North.
Dan Andree added six kills and Dan Dobrowolski contributed two aces and two digs.

FREEHOLD TWP. 9, MANALAPAN 8: Senior Taylor Hoskins (four goals) scored the team’s ninth goal with about seven minutes left to give the Patriots (4-1) a 9-6 lead.
The Braves (4-2) had two unanswered goals to close out the game. First, senior Danielle Rizzo (three goals) scored with about four minutes left and then senior Sarah Perkins (three goals) scored with about two minutes left.
RB CATHOLIC 20, MONMOUTH 4: Grace Fallon had five assists and scored one goal to lead the Casey’s (6-0, 5-0) past the Falcons (2-3, 1-3) in a Class B North game.
Junior Amanda Casten scored a game-high five goals, and had one assist. Bri Wolfe scored two goals for the Falcons.
IN BOYS LACROSSE
BRICK 11, BARNEGAT 10: Senior attackman Mark Bixenman scored the game-winning goal with 2:33 left as the Green Dragons (3-3, 2-1) defeated the Bengals (4-3, 1-3) in a Class A South game.
Bixenman finished with three goals and one assist and junior attackman David Kearns contributed three goals and four assists. Barnegat sophomore attackman Matt Manno scored with 10:10 left to tie the game at 10-10. He finished with that one goal while junior attackman Ethan Tonnesen had three goals and one assist and senior attackman Nick Anderson had two goals and four assists.
SOUTHERN 11, TOMS RIVER EAST 3: Senior attackman Tyler Lipositz scored two goals and assisted on two goals in the second period as the No. 2 Rams (7-0, 5-0) defeated the Raiders (2-4, 1-3) in a Class A South game.
Lipositz finished with three goals and four assists and Dylan Jinks had two goals and two assists. Toms River East’s Nolan Gottshall had one goal and one assist.
TR EAST 6, LACEY 0: Heading into Tuesday’s Shore Conference Class A South matchup, Lacey was on a two-game winning streak while Toms River East had lost two straight. But none of that mattered, as the Raiders made sure they scored a pair of runs early and senior pitcher Jordan Weed took care of the rest.
In the first inning, Sarah Bencivenga reached second base on an error to lead off the game, went to third on a sacrifice bunt by Cassie Varvaro and scored when Taylor Dziedzic also reached on an error. After Dziedzic went to second on a passed ball, Weed reached on an error as well, scoring Dziedzic to make it 2-0.
The Raiders (6-3, 5-1) never looked back, as Weed sllowed just two singles and a walk and fanned 12 Lions. Lacey (3-4, 3-3) committed five errors during the game. East’s Lauren Coppinger finished 2-for-4.
DONOVAN 2, MANCHESTER 0: Courtney Tyluki struck out seven and walked none while allowing three hits, as the Griffins won their second straight game in a Class B South clash with the Hawks. Monsignor Donovan (2-3, 2-2) scored all its runs in the bottom of the fourth, after Jen Rivers walked, Rebecca Drake singled, a fielder’s choice off the bat of Nicole Davis moved the runners over, and Taylor Zrebiec’s bloop single brought in Rivers and Drake.
CENTRAL 12, BARNEGAT 4: The Golden Eagles (5-1, 5-1) scored six runs during the first two innings and rolled from there during their B South victory over the Bengals, who have lost five straight. Kylie Smolock went 5-for-5 with an RBI, while Kayla Heline went 3-for-5 and Lindsey Mahnken finished 2-for-4 with three RBI for Central. Stephanie Pepper struck out six and walked two for the victory in the pitcher’s circle.
