The 2013 Pennfield High alumni basketball tournament — an event that has been taking place since 1994 — was recently competed at Pennfield.
The tourney, sponsored by the Pennfield Athletic Booster Club, has a primary goal each year of providing an enjoyable recreational activity for the alumni during the holiday seasons. It has also been a successful fundraiser for the school’s athletic boosters during each year’s short three-day, 10-game schedule.
The tourney isn’t only for players, but for fans as well — a chance for long-time friends to catch up with one another.
Next year’s tourney is scheduled for Dec. 26-28, 2014. Following are results from the 2013 event:
* Regular division championship: The Class of 2012 defeated the Class of 2010, 57-46. High scorers for 2012 were Jon Everett with 21 points and Evan Bish with 11. High scorer for 2010 was Chris Talbott with 22.
The rest of the Class of 2012 included Nathan Wallace, Jacob Emmons, Tyler Moore, Tyler Grimes, Cole Whitney and Nic Acton. The rest of the Class of 2010 included Brenden Clements, Damon Case, Vinni Solis, Jimmy Jackson, Tyler Crouch, Dylan Willavize and Brandon Hogan.
* Senior division championship: The Classes of 1997-2002 defeated the Class of 2003, 71-32. High scorers for the Classes of 1997-2002 were Durand Wilson with 20 points and Jon Zima with 15. High scorer for the Class of 2003 was Steve Miknis with 14.
The rest of the Classes of 1997-2002 included Adam Heikkila, Shawn Goshorn and Ryan Zima. The rest of the Class of 2003 included Robert Youngs, Josh Shemelia, Matt White and Tommy Hoyt.
