Local roundup: Guerra leads Red Hook boys lacrosse over Rhinebeck, 11-4


Tong Guerra had four goals and an assist as the Red Hook High School boys lacrosse team defeated Rhinebeck, 11-4, on Monday.

Ian Taylor added three goals and an assist for Red Hook (4-5). Brandon Voll scored twice.

Nick Michitsch and Max Spagnoli each scored for the Raiders with Michitsch totaling four assists.

Roan Gideon had three goals for Rhinebeck (0-6). Alex Enther also scored.

Red Hook goalie Austin Loeffel made four saves.

Rhinebeck goalie Andrew Speers made 18 saves.

Girls lacrosse

Oliva Oppenheim contributed five goals and an assist as host Wappingers defeated Our Lady of Lourdes, 13-11.

Dana Volk and Jenna Lasaponara each pitched in with two goals. Megan Loira saved 12 shots for Wappingers.

The Warriors improved to 2-8.
John S. Burke Catholic 18, New Paltz 4 — Kiley Murphy had two goals, but the Huguenots lost on the road.

Boys tennis

Carol Tyson, Aaron Hoffman and Alec Gautier won singles matches as the visiting Rhinebeck Hawks beat Millbrook, 5-0, to improve to 5-0 with a Mid-Hudson Athletic League win.

Winning doubles teams for Rhinebeck were Elliott Hoffman and Madeline Olsen, and Emily Sullivan and Zoe Ethinger.

Millbrook is 3-3.

Girls golf
Highland lost to Warwick, 146-181 to fall to 3-3 overall, although Caroline Roberto medaled for Highland, shooting a 6-over par 42 at Warwick Country Club.

College softball

Marist’s Nicole Cheek was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week.

Cheek was 9 for 21 with two home runs and nine RBI in three doubleheaders last week.

Men’s tennis

Vassar won the Liberty League championship, defeating visiting Skidmore, 5-2, on Monday at Walker Field House.

Andrew Guzick and Daniel Cooper each won a singles match and teamed up for a doubles win.

Other winners for Vassar were Christian Phelps, who won a singles match, and the doubles tandem of Dan Freeman and Nick Jasso.

Women’s lacrosse

Marist’s Allison Gionta was named MAAC Rookie of the Week.

Gionta had two goals and an assist on Saturday against Canisius.

Men’s lacrosse

Marist’s Joseph Radin was named MAAC Rookie of the Week. Radin had three goals and four assists in two games last week.

College baseball

New Paltz pitcher Chris Chismar was named SUNY Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Chismar threw 51/3 scoreless innings against Oneonta on Wednesday.

Women’s tennis

Vassar’s Winnie Yeates was named Liberty League Rookie of the Week.

Women’s track and field

Marist’s Kathryn Sheehan set a school record in the 3,000-meter run late Sunday at the Yale Springtime Invitational, winning the event in 10 minutes, 2.64 seconds.

The previous record was 10:10.02 set by Lisa Grudzinski in 2003.

Men’s track and field

Arlington graduate Alex Cunningham placed third in the 110 hurdles in 15.52 for Marist at the Yale Springtime Invitational late Sunday in New Haven, Conn.

Lourdes graduate Charlie Ropes finished fourth in the 5,000 run in 15:18.08.
