Local roundup: Lizzie Westermeyer leads Red Hook volleyball in sweep


Lizzie Westermeyer had 17 assists and a kill to lead the Red Hook High School volleyball team past visiting Highland 25-12, 25-5, 25-14 on Thursday.

Kali Thorpe (five kills) and Natalie Ryan (three) contributed to the win, which raised the Raiders’ record to 8-6 on the season.

Emily Rider had four kills and three blocks to pace the Huskies. Teammate Julie Valentine had four digs, and Alexis Wilson added an ace and a dig.

Red Hook hosts John A. Coleman Catholic today.

Franklin D. Roosevelt 3, Dover 0 — Bri LaMonica had three aces, two kills and 11 assists as the host Presidents swept the Dragons, 25-17, 25-22, 25-17.

Shannon Kelly had 15 kills, an ace and a block for Roosevelt. Olana Costa had two aces, four kills and 12 assists.

Cassandra Drogan had 14 assists and three aces for the Dragons.

Pawling 3, Putnam Valley 1 — Clara Lombardo had six aces, 10 kills and 18 assists as host Pawling won on Senior Night, 25-16, 22-25, 25-19, 27-25.

Pawling coach Jessica Hackett said she was especially impressed by the play of Erin Waters (two aces, 18 kills, two blocks, eight digs) and Ashley Loeven (four aces, 19 digs).

“I thought Erin Waters and Ashley Loeven, as senior captains, stepped up and played outstanding,” Hackett said. “Erin dominated the net. Offensively, she was unstoppable. She had 18 kills and she put the ball away every time she touched it. Loeven just played outstanding defense. It was nice to win a close match, especially so close to sectionals.”

John Jay 3, Arlington 0 — Megan Theiller had 27 digs, 29 kills and three blocks as the visiting Patriots swept the Admirals, 25-18, 28-26, 25-22.

John Jay improved to 15-1.

Kaitlyn Faugerstrom had two aces, 17 assists, six blocks, eight kills and five digs for Arlington (10-6).

Millbrook 3, Webutuck 0 — Audrey Ouimet had five kills and six aces as the visiting Blazers beat the Warriors, 25-4, 25-8, 25-6.

Meredith Dignan added nine assists, nine aces and two kills for Millbrook (13-2), Cassie Weaver contributed five aces.

Marlboro 3, Rondout Valley 2 — Olivia Morehead had 15 digs and two aces, and Angelica DeSantis added 15 assists and nine digs as the visiting Iron Dukes defeated the Ganders, 25-22, 17-25, 19-25, 25-17, 25-23.

Marlboro improved to 10-5.

John A. Coleman Catholic 3, Rhinebeck 0 — Bailey Hutchins had seven kills and eight assists, but the visiting Hawks fell 25-15, 25-20, 25-16.

Rhinebeck fell to 11-4.

Boys cross country

Sam Gilbert placed first in 20 minutes, 15 seconds as Red Hook defeated Highland 23-38 in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League meet also attended by runners from Millbrook, which fielded an incomplete team.

Highland’s Kevin Pikul (20:16) and Damion Stevens (20:17) placed second and third.

Spackenkill splits — Sam Heraghty won the 3.1-mile MHAL race at Vassar Farms as his team defeated Webutuck, 20-39, but lost to Onteora, 20-43.

Girls cross country

Highland’s Kerry Gordon placed first in 24:25 at an MHAL meet hosted by Red Hook.

Highland fielded an incomplete team. Red Hook defeated Millbrook 15-48. The Raiders were led by Kaitlin McGovern, who placed second in 25:05. Millbrook’s top finisher was Julia Galantich, who placed seventh in 27:20.

Ibarra competes — Webutuck’s Denise Ibarra placed third of four runners in 25:13 in a 3.1-mile MHAL race at Vassar Farms.

Women’s soccer

In Marist’s 3-0 win over Quinnipiac late Wednesday, Rycke Guiney, Samantha Panzner and Arlington graduate Alycia Cartica each scored as the host Red Foxes improved to 8-7-2 overall and 6-2 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play,

Drew 2, New Paltz 1 — Eleni Anselmi scored for visiting New Paltz, which fell to 2-10-3 late Wednesday.
