The boys lacrosse team from Millbrook High School toppled John S. Burke Catholic 14-13 in overtime Friday behind six goals and three assists from Rory Shoemaker. Ian Olson scored the game winner.
The Blazers’ Ryan Waters tallied five goals and two assists, Tyler DuBois provided two goals and three assists, and Conor O’Donnell made 16 saves.

Liz Halpin and Julia Berti each added two Blazers goals. Millbrook (10-5) secured the second seed in the Section 9 Class C playoffs and will play No. 3 Burke on Thursday.

Mahopac 18, Arlington 10 — Katie Curran scored four times in Arlington’s season-ending loss on the road in the Section 1 Class A playoffs late Thursday.

Competing at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta on Philadelphia’s Schuylkill River, John Jay’s Kyle Mabry qualified for today’s semifinals of the boys varsity single event by placing sixth in time trials.

After seven seasons and a 121-142 overall record, Matt Griffiths stepped down as the head coach at SUNY New Paltz, the school announced.
Griffiths started as an assistant coach with the Hawks in 2004, taking over the head job three years later.
Arlington’s Sean Gorwara lost in the quarterfinals of the Section 1 tournament to John Jay-Cross River’s Frank Kote, 6-2, 6-3, late Thursday.
Kote beat Lourdes’ Kyle Fraser 6-1, 6-1 in the previous round, while Gorwara topped Ardsley’s Sam Khym, 6-2 6-2. Frasier beat Keio’s Rikuto Matsukura 6-4, 6-0 in the first round.
