Lomira and North Fond du Lac took part in a 10-team invitational Saturday in Appleton, where the Lions almost captured a team championship. They fell just 1.5 points short to Crandon, 228-226.5.

Ten Lomira wrestlers placed in the top three of their respective weight classes. Five of them won titles. Perhaps the most impressive of them was junior Casey Seltrecht at 138 pounds. He defeated fifth-ranked Alex Maes of Wrightstown by a score of 9-3 in the final, which was the 100th victory of his career. He’s now 31-1 on the season.

At 120, Cayden Wiese (22-5) won the title with a technical fall and two pins for his first career championship. Garrett Keller (28-4) took first at 152 with two pins and then a 2-1 decision in the final. At 182, third-ranked Ethan Cook remained undefeated (26-0) by picking up two pins, and Justin Thill was the champ at 220 with two pins as well.

Mitch Garriety (126), Tyler Scharschmidt (145) and Matt Knuth (170) each took second.

North Fond du Lac rounded out the team scores, placing 10th. Its day was highlighted by a second-place finish by Noah Giebel at 120, who fell to Lomira’s Wiese in the final. The Orioles’ Nate Killian took fifth at 160 and Ryan Behnke was sixth at 145.
