THE WINNER: Delaney Sheehan
School: Mandeville (La.)
Athletic achievement:She scored 56 goals and passed for 31 assists this past season, leading the Lady Skippers (24-5-3) to the Division I state quarterfinals. The state’s returning Gatorade Girls Soccer Player of the Year, Sheehan was an All-American selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. She has been a First Team All-State honoree each of the last four seasons and was chosen the Division I Player of the Year by the Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association.
Academic excellence: Sheehan has maintained a 4.59 GPA.
Exemplary character: A member of her school’s Key Club, she has served in student government and has volunteered locally on behalf of Habitat for Humanity.
“Sheehan is very strong technically and tactically,” said Al Silvis, head coach at Dominican (New Orleans, La.). “She was really an impact player for her team.”
THE FUTURE: Sheehan has signed with Furman.
