Lourdes dismantles Rio on the road

The Lourdes Academy Knights girls basketball team was looking to continue their strong play heading into the WIAA tournament next week.

The Knights did just that by dismantling the Rio Vikings 61-27 in Rio on Thursday night in their regular-season finale.

Lourdes jumped out right away on the Vikings, going on a 10-0 run to start the game and never letting Rio get any closer.

“Rio is tough team on their home court and we went on a 10-0 run right away and didn’t look back,” Lourdes coach Ali Fett said. “Our girls got a lot better tonight and that’s all we’ve been asking them to do.”

The Knights got a nicely balanced offensive night from their team, led by Maddy Reed, who scored 15 on the night.

Jamie Spanbauer hit four 3-pointers on her way to 14 points and Hunter Godfroy put in 13 for Lourdes on offense in the victory.
