Lourdes Academy’s bats came alive in the first game of a doubleheader against Oakfield on Saturday.
Michael Godfroy made sure the Oaks’ bats didn’t return the favor in the second.
The Knights pounded out 20 hits in a 16-6 rout in the opener before Godfroy’s five-hitter in the nightcap earned Lourdes a 6-1 victory and a sweep in the Trailways twinbill at E.J. Schneider Field.
Chris Hetzel led the offensive barrage in the opener, going 4-for-5 with a solo home run, while Jimmy Brooks finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs, including a two-run blast in the fifth inning.
The Knights broke the game open with a six-run second inning, which was sparked by a two-run double by Jack Danielson, who finished 3-for-5.
Alex Kroll also had three hits, while Nicl Monfils and Adam Krause each finished with two.
“That’s probably the first game this year where the lineup from top to bottom hit the ball well,” Lourdes coach Reed Tyriver said. “It was nice to see them have fun out there, hit the ball and play well.”
The second game belonged to Godfroy, who walked only one and struck out seven in the 82-pitch complete game. He blanked the Oaks for the first six innings before surrendering a run in the seventh when the game was in hand for the Knights.
“He threw strikes. That was the biggest thing,” Tyriver said. “He pounded the strike zone and used his defense.”
Danielson finished 3-for-4 with an RBI single in the fourth and a run-scoring double in the sixth, after the Knights had taken the lead with a three-run first inning. Eddie Sweet also finished 2-for-3.
