Maine baseball team loses season finale against UMBC

ORONO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) — The Maine baseball team has already clinched the America East title and will be the top seed in the conference tournament, which starts on Wednesday in Lowell, MA. But first, the Black Bears were trying to finish their regular season with a series sweep against UMBC.

Maine senior Mike Fransoso made his 1st appearance in the lineup since getting hit by a pitch in the eye on Tuesday at Boston College. He batted in the DH spot Saturday afternoon.

The Retrievers got out to an early 2-0 lead, but Maine rallied and scored 4 runs in the 3rd inning. But UMBC made a late comeback in the 9th inning, winning the game, 6-5.
