BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) –The team from Bangor representing Maine District 3 in the Senior League World Series kicked off pool play in the tournament on Sunday afternoon against Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, the team representing Canada.
No score til the bottom of the 2nd inning when Andrew Hillier – better known as “Cup” or “Cuppy” at the plate. He lets a wild pitch fly by. Andrew Elston runs home from third. Maine on the board first, 1-0.
Cuppy still at the plate – he lines one to left field. Kyle Stevenson scores. 2-0 Maine.
In the 3rd inning, Maine up 3-0 now, Andrew Elston pops one up – This one drops down in right field, bringing Sam Huston home. 4-0 Maine opening up the lead now.
Still in the 3rd inning, Ben Crichton pops and drops in right field too. That was RBI single bringing home two runs to make it 6-0 Maine. There was lots of production at the plate for Maine in the game, but also stellar pitching by Justin Courtney on the mound. He threw 4 2/3 innings, giving up one run on three hits and striking out eight. He also gave up one walk.
