With one Monmouth County Tournament upset already in the books this week, Manasquan pulled off the second one, albeit minor. The 10th-seeded Warriors knocked off seventh-seeded Freehold Township, 7-5, during a nine-inning contest in the Red Division first round.

After both teams scored three runs in the eighth to keep the knotted, Manasquan (8-3) scored twice in the top of the ninth, when Megan Gilly singled and scored on an off-the-fence double to left by Shakyra Moore, who then scored on a groundout off the bat of Allyson Latourette.

Every player in the Manasquan lineup had one hit, while Amanda Freyre went 3-for-5 and Victoria Saporito went 2-2 with a pair of walks for the Patriots (9-4).

IN OTHER MCT FIRST-ROUND GAMES:

WALL 11, ST. ROSE 1: Dani Petrone slugged a two-run homer in the third inning and Katie Kilgallen followed with a solo shot, as the second-seeded Crimson Knights (12-1) cruised past the 15th-seeded Purple Roses (7-5). Kirby Marron scattered seven hits to earn the victory in the pitcher’s circle.

SJ VIANNEY 15, HENRY HUDSON 0: Kate Baron bashed a three-run homer to left-center in the second, went 3-for-3 and drove in seven runs, and Jackie Gallagher went 3-for-3 with three RBI, as the top-seeded Lancers romped past the Admirals (6-6). Erica Krumbine and Claire Stefanelli each had two hits and a walk, while Kate Beriot fired a no-hitter, fanning nine and allowing two walks.

ALLENTOWN 7, MARLBORO 2: Haley Peterson allowed four hits to the Mustangs, and scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the victory, as the Redbirds (11-3) advanced to the quarterfinals.

IN THE OCEAN COUNTY TOURNAMENT:

JACKSON MEM. 3, BRICK MEM. 2: The Jaguars scored twice in the bottom of the second and once in the sixth to hold on for the first-round win and advance to the quarterfinals to face Toms River North. Pitcher Kara Molnar scattered eight hits and walked one while earning the victory.

In the sixth, Dana Variello, who went 2-for-3, led off with a single and went to second on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Kara Molnar, before scoring on a single to right by Morgan Novak. Kayla Molnar finished 2-for-4 for Jackson Memorial (8-3). For the Mustangs, Casey Charterina was 2-for-4, as was Allison Slobiski and Jessica Bormann.

IN REGULAR-SEASON ACTION:

HOWELL 4, OCEAN 0: AnneMarie Bartow went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and Julia Moscato was 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Alyssa Ruiz allowed four hits to earn the win in the circle, as the Rebels (8-4) finished the week with a big win over the Spartans (11-3).

WALL 3, MIDD. SOUTH 2: The Crimson Knights took a 2-1 lead in the first and held on for the one-run victory. Wall managed just three hits off South’s Alli Podmajersky, who struck out 12 and walked one. Amanda Pringle swatted two of those hits, while Dani Petrone had the other, a double.

FREEHOLD TWP. 3, PINELANDS 1: Jordyn White fanned 14, walked two and allowed three hits as the Patriots edged the Wildcats (11-4). Amanda Freyre whacked a two-run double to right-center in the sixth to give Township the victory.
