Mariners hand Wall its first loss of season

Julian Feliz’s single to right with one out in the top of the seventh inning scored Anthony Ferlise with the go-ahead run and capped a rally from a four-run deficit after three innings as Toms River North defeated Wall, 8-7, on Friday in a nondivisional game.

It was the first loss of the season for Wall, ranked No. 3 in the Asbury Park Press Top 10.

Toms River North (6-3), which has won three straight and scored a combined 27 runs in those games, scored five runs over the last four innings and scored in six of the seven innings.

Ferlise led off the seventh with a single. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Cordasco.

Ron Marinaccio came on in relief in the seventh and struck out all three batters he faced for the save.

Senior right-hander Jordan Silvestri pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief to pick up his first varsity win. He came on with a runner on third and one out in the fifth and got a line out to first and a strikeout.

MIDD. SOUTH 2, MIDD. NORTH 1: Andrew Wisialko led off the bottom of the sixth with a single and then scored the tie-breaking run on a throwing error to first on Kyle Brey’s sacrifice bunt as the No. 8 Eagles (5-3, 5-3) defeated the Lions (3-5, 3-5) in a Class A North game.

Mike Grossi scattered eight hits over the first six innings to pick up the win. He got out of a first-and-second, nobody out jam in the fifth by getting a 6-4-3 double play and received the aid of shortstop Brey and first baseman Rob Grilli who teamed up to rob Chris Stark of an RBI single.

Perry Kulaga pitched the seventh to get the save. The game ended on a line drive double play to second.

CBA 5, COLTS NECK 3: Anthony Critelli’s sacrifce fly in the bottom of the fifth scored Joe Dudek with the tie-breaking run as the No. 6 Colts (6-3, 6-2) remained in first place in Class A North with the win over the No. 7 Cougars (5-4, 4-4) and gave 40th-year head coach Marty Kenney career win No. 698.

Matt Pidich pitched five-hit ball over the first six innings to pick up the win. John McCarren pitched the seventh to pick up the save.

RED BANK 2, FREEHOLD 0: Senior left-hander Joe Jacques pitched a two-hitter and struck out 11 as the Bucs (3-6, 3-4) defeated the Colonials (3-5, 2-5) in a Class B North game.

Ross Gisondi’s RBI fielder’s choice in the first scored Tyler Cook, who had doubled and Chris Stevenson’s RBI double in the fifth scored Jacob Nappi from first.

POINT BORO 5, BARNEGAT 3: Mike Dunham pitched a complete-game six-hitter and Ryan Lees and Deven Del Priore had two-run singles in the first and second innings respectively as the Panthers (4-4, 3-4) defeated the Bengals (3-4, 2-4) in a Class B South game.

HOLMDEL 8, RARITAN 3: J.P. Licciardello had a two-run single and Joe Sadler a two-run triple in an eight-run fifth as the Hornets (3-6, 3-5) wiped out a 3-0 deficit and defeated the Rockets (4-5, 3-5) in a Class A Central game.

MANASQUAN 3, SHORE 2: Tom Toole went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in a three-run third as the Warriors (2-6, 2-6) defeated the Blue Devils (1-8, 1-7 in a Class A Central game. It was Manasquan’s second win over Shore in as many days.

MANCHESTER 6, LAKEWOOD 2: Ed White’s grand slam capped a six-run third inning and senior right-hander Jeremy Carney and junior left-hander Dan Piskowski combined on a four-hitter as the Hawks (4-4, 4-3) defeated the Piners (2-4, 2-4) in a Class B South game.

OCEAN 7, NEPTUNE 2: Senior left-hander Taylor Yates pitched a complete-game seven-hitter and Jerome Cevetello hit a two-run homer in the third and Miles Moody led off the bottom of the first with a homer as the Spartans (5-4, 4-3) defeated the Scarlet Fliers (1-5, 1-5) in a Class B North game.
