Add another milestone to Makayla Epps’ long list of accomplishments.

The Marion County High School senior scored the 3,000th point of her career Friday as the Lady Knights whipped Shaker Heights (Ohio) Hathaway Brown 68-33 in the Raatz Fence/O’Shea’s Classic at Mercy.

According to Kentucky High School Athletic Association records, Epps is the 21st player to reach the mark. She’s the second Marion County player to accomplish the feat, as Tacarra Hayes scored 3,109 during four seasons at Caverna and her final two with the Lady Knights.

“It’s real nice,” said Epps, a University of Kentucky signee who joined the Marion County varsity team as a sixth-grader. “Being the first true one out of Marion County to reach 3,000 means a lot.”

Epps scored 26 points, hitting 12 of 16 shots, and added six assists, four rebounds and four steals as the Lady Knights — No. 1 in The Courier-Journal’s Litkenhous Ratings — improved to 23-0. Fellow UK signee Kyvin Goodin-Rogers added 15 points and seven rebounds.

Marion County, ranked No. 8 in the nation by ESPN, led 16-8 after the first quarter and 39-16 at halftime and never looked back.

Nia Marshall, a Cornell signee, had 12 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks to lead Hathaway Brown (13-4).

* Science Hill 76, Mercy 54: Gabby Lyons scored 18 points, going 8 for 8 from the field and 2 for 2 from the free-throw line, to lead the Hilltoppers (21-2) from Johnson City, Tenn., over the Jaguars (11-8).

Keisha Gregory added 14 points and six assists for Science Hill, ranked No. 18 in the nation by ESPN. Gregory hit 4 of 5 3-point tries.

Whitney Hartlage scored 20 points to lead Mercy, which trailed 25-9 after the first quarter and never got closer than seven the rest of the way.

* Incarnate Word 75, Christian Academy 42: Napheesa Collier, one of the nation’s top-ranked sophomores, had 26 points, seven rebounds and three steals to lead the Red Knights (17-0) of St. Louis over the Lady Centurions (12-7). China Dow had 29 points and 10 rebounds to lead CAL.
