THE WINNER: Amanda Fioravanti


School: Good Counsel (Olney, Md.)
Grade: Senior
Position: Forward
Height: 6-foot-1

Athletic achievement: She averaged 19.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, 1.5 steals and 1.3 assists per game this past season, leading the Falcons (27-6) to the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference Tournament championship game. A 2012 Washington Post First Team All-Met selection and a two-time First Team All-WCAC honoree, Fioravanti played the second half of the season with an injury to her shooting hand. She concluded her prep basketball career with 1,861 points and 964 rebounds.

Academic excellence: Fioravanti has maintained a 3.76 GPA.

Exemplary character: She has volunteered locally helping children with disabilities through the 4-H Therapeutic Riding Program and Best Buddies International.


“Amanda does a lot of things really well,” said Ted Oberg, head coach at St. John The Baptist (West Islip, N.Y.). “She has great interior moves, runs the floor, boards and defends. She only has one speed — all out.”

THE FUTURE: Fioravanti will attend Virginia.
