A dominant showing in the Nike Tournament of Champions moves Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) into the top spot in the Super 25 girls' high school basketball rankings.
The Monarchs (14-0) defeated four ranked teams in the tournament, including then-No. 1 St. Mary's (Phoenix) in the semifinals. Mater Dei knocked off then-No. 8 Riverdale Baptist (Upper Marlboro, Md.) in the final. St. Mary's (12-1) fell to No. 4 in the latest rankings.
Eleven teams moved into the Super 25 this week, including Windward (Los Angeles), which defeated Bishop O'Dowd and Long Beach Poly to win the Oaks Christian Tournament. Windward debuts at No. 3. The only other previously unranked team to crack the Top 10 is St. John's (Washington, D.C.), which debuts at No. 7.
Duncanville (Texas) holds steady at No. 2 after improving to 26-0 wiby winning the Sandra Meadows Classic.
