Mayville Invitational: The Cardinals did well in their home invite on Thursday, as the girls’ team finished first out of six teams with 224 points while the boys finished second with 166.
Waupun also did well, with the boys finishing first with 194 points while the girls finished second at 136.5.
The Cardinal girls won nine events. Shannon Wagner leading the way with a first place in the long jump, 200-meter and the 100. Taylor Mangon and Hope Kubicek each won two events as Mangon finished first in the 400 and the pole vault, while Kubicek took the 300 hurdles and the triple jump. Chloe Reed added a first place in the discus while the 1,600 relay team won by 17 seconds over Oshkosh Lourdes.
Waupun captured two firsts. Taylor Dolske won the shot put with a throw of 32 feet, 10 inches, while Kayla Bonack won the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.80 seconds.
On the boys’ side, the Warriors dominated by winning 10 events and Mayville came away with one.
Waupun’s Andrew Klapper and Adrian Harmsen each won two events. Klapper taking the 1,600 and 3,200, while Harmsen won the 200 and 400. Five others won events in Bryce Verheyen (800), Brady Stockwell (discus), Bryce Buchda (300-meter hurdles), Devin Bleeker (high jump) and Cody Zimmerman in the triple jump. Their 4×800 relay team also took first.
For the Cardinals, their lone first place came from the 1,600 relay team as they edged Waupun by four seconds.
