McCarthy hat trick lifts Mater Dei in girls soccer semifinal

Julia McCarthy scored a hat trick, leading No. 2 Mater Dei Prep over No. 3 St. Joseph-Hammonton 3-2 in a NJSIAA Non-Public South B semifinal game. After falling behind 1-0 early in the first half, McCarthy and the Seraphs answered with three straight goals.

McCarthy scored her first goal in the 23rd minute off an assist from Lindsey Florio, and followed with the go-ahead goal in the 28th minute from teammate Amanda Patton.

Katie Viscardi finished the game with 10 saves for the Seraphs, who will play top-seeded St. Rose in the Non-Public South B final on Thursday.

IN OTHER NJSIAA GAMES

ST. ROSE 4, HOLY SPIRIT 0: Lauren Gates netted two goals leading the top-seeded Purple Roses over the fourth-seeded Spartans on a Non-Public South B semifinals. Kathleen Dailey scored the first goal of the gane and Jordan Nash recorded the shut out for the Purple Roses.

TR SOUTH 2, MOORESTOWN 0: Katie Hammack had a goal and an assist leading the second-seeded Indians over the third-seeded Quakers in a South Group III semifinal. Taylor Troutman assisted Hammack for the final goal of the game in the 76th minute. The Indians will play the fifth-seeded Golden Eagles for the South Group III title on Thursday.

CENTRAL 4, BURLINGTON 0: Amanda Carolan scored the first two goals of the game leading the fifth-seeded Golden Eagles over No. 16 Falcons in a South Group III semifinal. Erin Trapp also scored a goal and had an assist for the Golden Eagles.

WALL 4, HIGHTSTOWN 0: Alix Couto had a hat trick leading the seventh-seeded Crimson Knights over No. 11 Rams in a Central Group III semifinal. Couto scored her first goal in the 32nd minute off an assist from Jenn Textor.

SHORE 5, POINT BEACH 1: Ciara Boice scored in the second minute of the game off a corner kick from Jess Egan leading the third-seeded Blue Devils over the seventh-seeded Garnet Gulls in a Central Group I semifinal. Egan finished the game with a goal and three assists and keeper Katie Colagouri finished with five saves for the Blue Devils.

RUMSON-FAIR HAVEN 2, RAHWAY 0: Hannah LoSavio scored the first goal of the game leading the seventh-seeded Bulldogs to an upset victory over the third-seeded Indians in a Central Group II semifinal. In the 19th minute Schuyler DeBree played a ball across to Michaela Borneo for the second goal of the game for the Bulldogs.

DELRAN 1, HOLMDEL 1: Cladudia Collyer scored at 42:20 to tie the game at 1-1 in the second half but the Bears eventually broke the tie in penalty strokes winning the round, 4-3. Holmdel’s Helen Burleigh made nine saves.

LENAPE 2, TR NORTH 0: Alyssa Dell’Acqua made 12 saves but the No. 4 seed Mariners (15-5) lost to the top-seeded Indians (22-1-1) in a South Jersey Group IV game.

IN FIELD HOCKEY

WARREN HILLS 3, OCEAN 0: Sara Kraeutler made 14 saves as the seventh-seeded Spartans (15-5-1) fell to the fourth-seeded Blue Streaks (21-3-1) in the NJSIAA North 2 Group III sectional final.
