Cory McCarty of Elmira finished seventh in the Emerging Elite division for the boys 800 meters at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals at North Carolina A&T State University.
McCarty completed the race in 1 minute, 54.54 seconds. The winner, Matthew Rosen of Bloomington, Minn., clocked 1:53.28.
The meet took place Friday through Sunday.
John McCarthy of Painted Post, who competes for the Corning Hawks, finished sixth for the Championship division in the boys 2,000 steeplechase in 5:57.95. Bailey Roth from Colorado Springs, Colo., won in 5:49.24.
McCarthy’s Corning teammate, Wynn Curtis, earned 12th-place finishes in the Championship boys 400 hurdles (54.97) and the Emerging Elite boys 110 hurdles (14.764).
Marlon Humphrey of Birmingham, Ala. won the 400 in 50.25; Kenny Selmon of Mableton, Ga., the 110 in 14.18.
In the girls Championship division, Jacqueline Vaughn of Corning was 24th in the mile racewalk in 8:53.43. Annica Penn of Westhampton Beach, N.Y., won in 7:29.87.
In the Freshmen division, Abby Wheeler of Elmira took 19th in the girls mile in 5:29. Lauren Chapey of Mamaroneck, N.Y., won in 5:07.94.
Brian Bates of Corning was 20th in the Freshman boys two-mile run in 10:29.21. Peter Kane of Painted Post did not complete the race. The winner, Gavin Gaynor of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., came in at 9:39.51.
In the Junior High girls division mile run, Mackenzie Tubbs of Elmira placed 14th (5:33.95) and Maeve Homan of Corning 16th (5:35.2). Julie Heymach of Pearland, Texas topped the field in 5:03.5.
Three local teams competed in relays.
The Greater Elmira track club was 15th in the girls mile relay in 21:22.98. The Spirit of Pre from Michigan won in 20:30.32.
In the girls 1,600 relay, the Elmira Notre Dame track club took 17th in 3:57.43. Team Fit Fast from New Jersey won in 3:40.36.
The Corning track club’s boys mile relay clocked 18:26.67 to finish 24th. Red Tide track club of Michigan won in 17:16.12.
