WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y.-McKinley ruined homecoming at Williamsville South with a come from behind 20-14 win over the Billies. The Macks take the top spot in the Class A Central division.
South scored the game’s first two touchdowns. Sam Castronova connected with Jeremy Spitzberg on fourth and goal from the McKinley 20 yard line to give the Billies an early first quarter lead. South blocked a McKinley punt to gain possession inside the Macks five yard line.
In the second quarter Castronova found Matt Foster for a 46 yard touchdown and the Billies were in business. Before the quarter was over the Macks had cut the lead to 14-6 on a Jamar Rutledge touchdown pass to Mike Benton. South led by eight at halftime.
McKinley scored two late fourth quarter touchdowns to take the lead. South had a chance to get the game winning score in the final seconds but a Castronova pass in the end zone was incomplete.
McKinley’s running back Mike Benton had 73 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Quarterback Keyon Johnson was 2-2 for 53 yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver Jeremy Kelley had the 28 yard go ahead touchdown for McKinley. On defense McKinley’s Deneal Epps had 8 tackles and 2 sacks; Chris Smith had 5 tackles and 2 sacks.
With the win the Macks not only win the Class A Central division title but they remain unbeaten at 6-0. McKinley plays at Sweet Home next Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 2-pm.
