Middletown and Salesianum earned the top two seeds and first-round byes when the pairings for the DIAA Division I Football Tournament were announced today.
No. 6 St. Mark’s (7-3) will play at No. 3 Dover (8-2) in a first-round game at 7:30 p.m. Friday. No. 5 William Penn (7-3) will play at No. 4 Caesar Rodney at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
The lowest remaining seed from the first round will play at No. 1 Middletown (9-1) in a semifinal game at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22. The highest remaining seed from the first round will play No. 2 Salesianum (9-1) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23 at Baynard Stadium. The Division I championship game will be played Nov. 30 or Dec. 1 at a site and time to be determined.
For the second consecutive season, St. Georges (9-1) earned the top seed in Division II but will not play a home game. The Hawks’ stadium does not meet DIAA requirements for visiting team seating and control of stadium access.
So St. Georges will meet No. 8 seed Indian River (6-4) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Appoquinimink. No. 6 Woodbridge (7-3) will travel to No. 3 Tower Hill (10-0) in Friday’s other Division II game at 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, No. 2 Hodgson (8-2) will host No. 7 Howard (7-3) at 11 a.m. and No. 4 Delmar (9-1) will host No. 5 Caravel (7-3) at 7:30 p.m. in the other Division II quarterfinals.
The highest remaining seed will meet the lowest remaining seed and the two middle remaining seeds will play in the Division II semifinals. Those games will be played Nov. 22 and/or Nov. 23, with dates, sites and times to be determined. The Division II championship game will be played Nov. 30 or Dec. 1 at a site and time to be determined.
Tickets for all first-round games are $5. Tickets for semifinal games are $6 at high school sites, $7 at Baynard Stadium. Tickets for the championship games are $8.
