Fans of the Millville High School football team won’t have to leave the comfort of their favorite couch or chair to see the program compete this season.
Quinn Broadcasting will air all Thunderbolts games live on QBC-TV2 as well as stream the contests in real time at http://www.qbc2.com. There will not be radio coverage of Millville games this season, however.
“We’re very excited about it,” Quinn Broadcasting general manager Carl Elwood said. “Our office is housed here in Millville, so it’s the hometown team. It will be a great service for the community.”
Live broadcasts are a first for Quinn, which has covered football on WSNJ AM 1240 since 1938 and tape-delayed on TV for the last 35 years, according to Elwood. The live television broadcast will also feature a postgame show in the 15-minute range, Elwood said. Games will continue to be replayed on QBC-TV2 (Comcast channel 2).
This project has been in the work for about two months, Elwood said.
“It required the purchasing of some additional equipment and software for our computers,” Elwood added. “It has taken some time and preparation, but the advent of modern technology made it possible. We’ve been running tests for weeks and have had great success.”
Millville athletic director Dave LaGamba praised the school’s relationship with Quinn heading into the new school year.
He’s optimistic about live coverage of Bolts football, but still encouraged fans to attend games.
“I’m happy to see them utilizing the technology available,” LaGamba said of Quinn. “It’s a sign of the times with the way things are nowadays that you can stream live footage, but I hope people continue to come to our games, which I think they will.
“Quinn has always taken really good care of all our athletic programs and I’m sure that will continue.”
Elwood noted new opportunities for fans in attendance at Millville games, such as accessing a stream of the action on their iPhones or iPads and enjoying the capability of seeing instant replays of events that take place during the contest.
As for live local high school football radio coverage, WSNJ will broadcast five Bridgeton and five Cumberland games this year.
