Mishicot names new coach

There will be a new coach patrolling the sidelines for Mishicot this fall.

Kevin Fix was named the new head coach of the Indians; he takes over for Matt Dirkmann who was 4-13 in two seasons in Mishicot.

Fix spent the past 10 years as a varsity assistant in Columbus, most recently as the defensive coordinator for the Cardinals.

The Indians, who are in search of their first winning season since the 2009 campaign, are welcoming their third coach in four years. Fix knows that part of his job will be helping his players adjust to new schemes and terminology.

“There will definitely be a transition period, from a learning aspect,” Fix said. “I’m hoping to ease the learning process and help them build confidence as individuals.”

The necessary adjustments may not be made overnight, but Fix is confident that the members of his new team have what it takes to adapt to his philosophies.

“I’ve been very pleased with what I’ve seen so far,” Fix said. “The kids seem like hard-working, respectable young men.”

In addition to the changes at the helm, Mishicot will also be changing conferences as they move to the Olympian-Packerland-Small conference. The Indians had previously played in the Olympian-Packerland-Large Conference.
