Monroe Central’s Chase Bly drove into the lane and hit a 7-foot jumper with seven-tenths of a second left in overtime to deliver a 64-62 win against Blackford on Saturday.

The victory allowed the Golden Bears (5-2) to win the fifth-place game of the Northeastern Tournament and post a 2-1 record in the event.

“It was a great tournament for us,” Monroe Central coach Tom Byrum said. “We wanted to play in the championship game and win it, but we learned a lot from this. It will help us down the road, for sure.”

Blackford tied the score with 35 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Monroe Central worked the clock down and missed the final shot, forcing overtime.

Bly led the Golden Bears with 21 points. Jake Combs added 17 and Bracken Barga had 11.

* Union wins: The Rockets used a strong second half to pull away from South Adams for a 61-40 victory.

Nick Glaser had 15 points, 13 rebounds and five steals to lead Union. Spencer Shore added 14 points and four assists, and Michael Jackson had 14 points.

* Wes-Del falls: The Warriors scored only eight points in the second half and lost 56-25 at home to Frankton, the No. 4 team in the Class 2A poll. The Eagles were coming off a 19-point win against Wapahani on Friday.

Adam Paul led Wes-Del with 10 points, and Sam Paul had nine.
