Joel Wincowski scored five straight points in overtime and finished with 29 points to power Section 2’s Lake George to a 68-61 win over Moravia on Friday in the Class C state boys basketball semifinals at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
Connor McCoy scored on a put-back with 1.6 seconds left to send the game to overtime for the Warriors (23-2).
Sam Allen made a 3-pointer with 2:26 left in overtime to give the Blue Devils a 56-55 lead. Wincowski, a 6-foot-2 sophomore, answered with a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer to put the Warriors ahead for good.
Senior Dylan Powers scored a team-high 23 points for the Blue Devils (21-3), who lost in the state semifinals in 2010.
Junior Chandler Benson added 16 points and freshman Jared Lyon chipped in 11 for Moravia.
Moravia opened the fourth quarter to take a 49-42 lead with five minutes remaining in regulation. Lyon hit a running 45-foot 3-pointer as time expired to tie the game at 27-27 at halftime.
Section 9’s Pine Plains (21-2), in its first state final four appearance, rallied for a 52-49 win over Section 6’s Silver Creek (23-1) in the early semifinal. The Bombers, the top-ranked team Class C team in the state, scored the final eight points of the game to rally for the win over the Black Knights.
With Pine Plains leading by three with 5.9 seconds left and the Black Knights having to go the length of the court for the tie, the Bombers fouled Stephen Marcey in the back-court. Marcy hit a halfcourt 3-pointer but it came after the whistle. He went to the line for the one-and-one. Marcey missed the first, got his own rebound, and took it out to 3-point range, but his tying attempt missed.
Justin Cooper scored 18 points and Tyler Lydon added 10 points and 16 rebounds for the Bombers.
