The Class 1A top-ranked Regina boys soccer team suffered its first loss of the season to Class 3A Muscatine 2-0 Friday in Muscatine.
“This was the best squad I’ve seen out of Muscatine in the last five years,” Regina coach Rick Larew said.
The No. 10 Muskies (11-4) scored both goals in the first half to take an early lead.
“We played a lot better in the second half,” Larew said. “But there was a lot for us to learn from the game today.”
Larew praised the strong play of goalkeeper Aidan Mullan, who allowed just the third and fourth goals against the Regals all season.
Regina (10-1) will host the winner of the Highland/Williamsburg substate semifinal game at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Iowa City.
