The Marlboro girls swim team defeated Freehold Township 92-78 in a Class A South meet at YMCA of Western Monmouth County on Friday night.
The Mustangs won seven events, including the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays. Sophomore Joanna Han won the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke. Senior Jane Posner won the 200 freestyle and junior Risa Goldberg raced to a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle to win the team’s fourth event in a row.
After a slow start, the Patriots awoke with four straight wins of their own. Senior captain Abby Bryne won the 100 butterfly, and freshman Shannon McDade won the 100 freestyle. Sophomore Sophia Chiang followed with a win of her own in the 500 freestyle.
Brittany Fung broke the Patriots’ streak with a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke, as the Mustangs held on for the victory.
In girls swimming
MARLBORO 100, FREEHOLD TWP. 70: Senior Joe Torres won the 200 freestyle and the 100 freestyle, as the Mustangs defeated the Patriots in a Class A South meet.
Freehold Township’s Michael Oliver won the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke. Teammate Ryan O’Neill won the 100 butterfly and the 500 freestyle.

POINT BORO 10, SOUTH BRUNSWICK 1: Steven Kovaleski led the Panthers (12-4-2) to victory over the Vikings (6-5-1) in a nonconference game with five goals and one assist. The junior now leads the Shore Conference in scoring with 39 goals (1st in the Shore) and 26 assists.
Senior Carter Klotz had two goals and two assists, giving him 24 goals and 29 assists for the season.
Lance Nelson, Ray Seakan, and Mike Stigliano each had a goal for the Panthers, while captain Owen Herrington had a pair of primary assists and Nate Bissey stopped 18 of 19 shots.
BRICK 7, JACKSON MEM. 2: Brick’s Ryan Mooney opened the scoring with a first-period power-play goal at 14:08 from Tyler Iannarone and Ryan Price, setting the tone for the Green Dragons (10-3-4, 9-1-1), who overcame the Jaguars (5-12, 3-7) in Class A South.
Mooney added a second-period goal and assisted on Nikita Klinisove’s third-period goal, as the Dragons pulled into a first-place tie in Class A South with Brick Memorial.
Iannarone had two assists and a second-period power-play goal, while Tom Holowchuk scored Jackson’s first goal and had a primary assist on Justin Mayer’s second-period goal.
HOWELL 6, BRICK MEM. 5: Howell’s Frank Gerbasi recorded his first career hat trick, as the surging Rebels (9-11) held off the No. 8 Mustangs (10-7-2) in a nondivisional matchup.
Gerbasi assisted on Kyle Hallbauer’s first-period goal at 13:56, which answered a goal by Brick Memorial’s Steve McDermott at 4:29. McDermott had a pair of goals and an assist on Steve Bruno’s 13th goal of the season.
