Led by senior guard Desiree Moss’ 16-points, the fourth-seeded Neptune Scarlet Fliers (21-5) will move on to their sixth straight Central Jersey Group III final after defeating the top-seeded Middletown South Eagles (22-4), who were appearing in the program’s ninth consecutive sectional semifinal. The final score was 53-48.
Neptune sophomore guard Marajiah Bacon followed up with 15 points of her own as teammate Ivy Harrignton added 12 points
Eagles freshman guard Stephanie Karcz led all scorers with 17 points while Jackie Dluhi followed suit with 12 points.
Neptune, the CJ III champion from 2008-11, will travel to either No. 3 seed Freehold or No. 2 seed Hopewell Valley on Monday.
POINT BEACH 89, SOUTH HUNTERDON 44: Junior Katelynn Flaherty’s 36-point performance was backed by seven rebounds and seven assists as the top-seeded Garnet Gulls (22-1) soared past the fourth-seeded Eagles in a Central Jersey Group I semifinal
Sophomore guard Marina Mabrey followed Flaherty’s lead by scoring 26 points to go along with 15 rebounds, six assists, four steals, and three blocks, while teammate Nicole Meyer recorded six steals to go along with her seven points.
Point Beach moves on to the Central Jersey Group I final on Monday where the Garnett Gulls will play host to No. 6 Shore, a 49-47 winner at No. 2 seed Middlesex in Saturday’s other Central Jersey Group I semifinal. That game is slated for 6 p.m.
LAWRENCE 56, COLTS NECK 53: Despite Colts Neck’s Christopher O’Reilly, James Sobieski, and Eddie Romanik all finishing in double-figures with 11, 10, and 10 points, respectively, the top-seeded and short-handed Cougars (22-6) fell to the No. 5 Cardinals (18-10) in this semifinal meeting.
Sobieski also grabbed nine rebounds, blocked four shots, and dealt out a pair of assists, while taemmate Luke Lalima added five assists and four steals to his nine points.
