Athletic achievement: He has led the Grizzlies to a 17-1 record and a berth in the Division II state tournament, scheduled for May 30. Barss owned a 5-0 record on the mound with a 0.90 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 31.1 innings pitched in the regular season. A First Team All-State selection, he also has a .450 batting average at the plate.
Academic excellence: Barss has maintained a B average.
Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally on behalf of the Special Olympics.
“I think Barss is the most dominant pitcher in New Hampshire,” said Steve LaRose, head coach at Manchester (N.H.) West. “He’s got an above average fastball, in the low 90s with movement. He also shows good composure on the mound.”
THE FUTURE: Barss has signed with Rhode Island.
