THE WINNER: Allyson Frei
School: High Point Regional (Sussex, N.J.)
Athletic achievement: She posted a 22-4 record with a 0.19 ERA and 393 strikeouts in 186 innings-pitched this past season, leading the Wildcats (22-4-1) to the North I, Group III sectional final. A returning First Team All-State selection as named by The Star-Ledger, Frei recorded 14 shutouts and two no-hitters, including a 21-strikeout perfect game against Vernon Township (Glenwood, N.J.) on April 8. Also the returning All-West Jersey Player of the Year, she batted .325 with four home runs and 18 RBI.
Academic excellence: Frei has maintained a 4.45 weighted GPA and served on her school’s student council.
Exemplary character: A member of the National Honor Society and Foreign Language National Honor Society, she has volunteered locally on behalf of her church, a homeless shelter and Heroes & Cool Kids. Frei has also donated her time as a youth softball and swimming instructor, at youth wrestling tournaments and as a mathematics tutor for an elementary school student.
“Ally continues to surpass any expectations and is a true team player,” said High Point head coach Barbara Fasano. “This is what makes her so special. Ally is in a league of her own. She is not just an excellent athlete, student and person—she continues to rise above the competition. Ally’s game is at its best in pressure situations. Her statistics speak for themselves.”
THE FUTURE: Frei has verbally committed to Boston College.
